I am a software developer, mostly web-facing, living in Murfreesboro, TN. I went to school at Middle Tennesee State University and.... well... just never left.
My last year of college I fell in love with web programming. Much like your first love, it didn't last (php). After years of blissful ignorance, I found out she would quickly accept any new feature or idea on the block that everyone was talking about (bolted-on OOP anyone?). I figured it was time to move on.
I tried some Java programming and was working with EJBs. I decided it was time to head back to the old crowd. Quickly.
I've come to expand my horizons with ruby, python, clojure (and yes, I did go back to php, it was comfortable). Learning new languages and frameworks gives one perspective on how differently and efficiently problems can be tackled. Anyone wanting to dabble in some new languages should check out 7 Languages in 7 weeks. It's still very early beta, but will be an incredible addition to your library upon completion. Also, check out my other blog links for great ideas coming from Martin Fowler, Kent Beck and other people way smarter than me.
And last, but not least, I'm a gigantic fish nerd. Like, you would probably make fun of me fish nerd. If you would like to see pretty pictures of fish and coral or learn about keeping saltwater reef aquariums, check out Reef Central.
